Single items & small loads

One sofa, one marketplace collection, one thing that will not go in the car — priced by the hour, because a small job should not cost like a house move.

A blanket-wrapped sofa being carried on a trolley from a van into a flat entrance

Not everything that needs moving is a house. A sofa bought from someone three streets away, a wardrobe going to a daughter's new flat, a dining table collected from a marketplace seller who wants it gone by Sunday — these are real jobs, and they are badly served by removal firms geared entirely around full houses.

We take them, and for this kind of work we would usually point you at the hourly rate rather than a fixed price. On a small, straightforward job — a few items, no dismantling, easy access at both ends — hourly generally works out cheaper, and there is no sense selling you a whole day you do not need.

The item still gets the same treatment as anything else on the van. It is blanket-wrapped and strapped, it travels secured rather than wedged, and it gets carried in on a trolley rather than shuffled across your floor. A single item is a small job; it is not a lesser one.

Who this is for

  • Marketplace, eBay and auction collections that will not fit in a car
  • A single sofa, bed, wardrobe, appliance or dining table
  • Moving a room's worth of things between family addresses
  • Student moves and part-loads at the start or end of term

What's included

The same wrapping and securing
Blankets, straps and a trolley, exactly as on a full move. One item on a van still needs to arrive in the condition it left in.
Collection from a third party
We can collect from a seller, a shop or a storage unit and deliver to you — you do not have to be at both ends if the seller can hand over.
Carried to the room, not the doorstep
It goes where you want it in the property rather than being left in the hallway for you to wrestle with later.
Hourly pricing with a clear rate
You know the rate before you book, and small jobs are usually cheaper this way than on a fixed price.

Worth knowing before you book

The things that most often change a job on the day. We would rather they were on this page than a conversation on your doorstep.

  • There is a two-hour minimum on hourly bookings. Below that, the van and the crew still have to travel to you, and pretending otherwise would just mean a higher rate for everyone.
  • On an hourly booking, the hourly total depends on how long the job takes — the rate is fixed in advance, the duration is not. If you want certainty, ask us to price it fixed instead.
  • Waiting time on an hourly booking is charged after the first 30 minutes. If you are collecting from a seller, agree a firm handover time with them first.
  • Access matters more than size on a small job. A wardrobe up three flights with a tight turn takes longer than the same wardrobe on a ground floor, so mention the stairs when you ask.
  • Heavy or specialist items — a piano, a safe, an American fridge-freezer, gym equipment — need declaring before you book so we bring the right equipment and crew.

Single items & small loads questions

Hourly bookings have a two-hour minimum. That covers getting a van and a crew to you, doing the job, and getting to wherever they are needed next. For a genuinely local collection and delivery, two hours is usually more than the job takes anyway.

Yes, and it is one of the most common things we are asked for. Give us the collection address, the delivery address and a description of the item, and agree a firm handover time with the seller — waiting around at a collection address is the one thing that turns a quick job into an expensive one on an hourly booking.

Hourly, usually. Fixed price earns its keep on complicated days — big houses, dismantling, waiting on a key release — and on a small straightforward job it means buying certainty you do not really need. If the access is difficult or the timing is critical, ask us and we will tell you honestly which one suits.
